Many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2:3 NIV

Salt River Christian Men's Fellowship

History

The Salt River Christian Men's Fellowship (S.R.C.M.F.) was established in 1967 by men of vision from several small, rural, independent Christian Church Congregations in the surrounding counties. The Fellowship does not have an "official" membership; nor does it endeavor to exhibit any authority or control over either participating congregations or those congregations it has established through the years; those being Shelby Christian (1968), Henry Christian (1971), Anderson Christian (1977), Nelson Christian (1983), and Spencer Christian (1997). The Fellowship has also made monetary grants to Southside Christian in Woodford County and Carpenter's Christian in Mercer County. In the past 4 years the S.R.C.M.F. has partnered with other organizations in establishing two new congregations.

Campton Christian Church in Wolfe County began in 2004. Brother Will Cooper is the evangelist for this work. With the help of $30,000.00 given by the S.R.C.M.F. they were able to purchase their own building. Now that they have a newer refurbished building, the church is excited about the possibility of growth in their membership. Their attendance averages 15 per week with an average weekly offering of $275.00.

In 2005 Life Bridge Christian Church in Jefferson County began their new work. In September 2008, the congregation purchased the chapel building of Louisville Bible College to serve as their church home with the help of a $50,000 grant from the S.R.C.M.F. Currently the church has an average attendance of 70 and an average weekly offering of $1,600.00. Brother Dave Cordrey is the evangelist at Life Bridge.

Present

Presently, Dr. Tom Mobley, minister at Nelson Christian Church, is chairing a committee formed by the S.R.C.M.F. They are actively researching and pursuing a location to begin a new congregation. Please keep Dr. Mobley, this committee and the S.R.C.M.F. in your prayers that the Lord will lead them in the direction that he has planned for this ministry. As Jeremiah 29:11 says: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Future

Taking the Lord's command seriously to "go and make disciples", the Salt River Christian Men's Fellowship presents the following facts for your consideration: Just as New Testament Congregations were independent, but inter-dependent one with the other, for 42 years various local congregations have worked together to accomplish what a single congregation could not. Individuals form local congregations have pooled their resources, talents, and time; with the Lord's blessing, have reaped a grand harvest for His Church. But more work remains to be done! We are faced with a serious, but 'open door', challenge. There are 195 million unchurched people in the United States, making the U.S. the third largest mission field in the English-speaking world and the fifth largest globally.

How can we reach these people for Christ?

Answer: Not the only way, but an effective avenue is planting new congregations because 40% of the people who make a decision for Christ, do so through NEW CHURCH EVANGELISM. As Brother Doug Martin, founding evangelist for Spencer Christian Church, has so succinctly expressed, "New Congregations are not formed by accident. They are purposely planted by God's people." We are all responsible for the spreading of the message of Christ. With a greater focus on planting new congregations, more souls will be won for Christ. Please pray for New Church Evangelism and for your role in this endeavor! With each passing day we are getting closer and closer to our Lord's returning. What a joyful day that will be when we meet him face to face. Will you come join us in this ministry to bring more souls to Christ?
